CAREProviders > Cardiothoracic Surgery Service

The UWMC cardiothoracic surgery service cares for patients before, during, and after cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. Many of the patients on this service are critical care patients and require extensive pharmacologic therapy. Clinical pharmacist specialists work as a member of the surgery team in order to insure proper medication usage. Pharmacists are involved in hemodynamic monitoring, management of patients' cardiovascular medications, proper antimicrobial usage, and all other pharmacologic issues. Pharmacists also provide pharmaceutical education to patients, family members, and other health care providers.

Pharmacists on the cardiothoracic surgery service also monitor and serve as pharmacologic consultants for patients on the vascular surgery service.
