At UWMC, clinical pharmacy specialists provide services to the Maternal and Infant Care (MIC) Center as well as to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The MIC service is comprised of pregnant women in all stages of high and low-risk pregnancy as well as women who are post-partum. Pharmacists in the NICU are involved in the care of the infants in the intensive care units through interaction with the medical staff as well as the families. Responsibilities to these services include monitoring and optimization of pharmacotherapy, pharmacotherapy education, and facilitating adherence to established treatment guidelines. Services include therapeutic drug dosing, parenteral therapy monitoring, medication compliance counseling, and discharge prescription teaching.

UWMC clinical pharmacy specialists also serve as liasons to the obstetrics and gynecology service, providing information regarding appropriate drug utilization and dosing regimens.
