UWMC Diabetes Care Center is a specialty clinic serving Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients. Approximately 900 patients are seen every month with pharmacists available Monday through Friday in clinic. Clinical services include office visits with patients referred by physicians for individualizedmanagement of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and thyroid dysfunction. In addition, clinic pharmacists are involved with 72-hour continuous glucose sensor monitoring, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, insulin teaching, diabetes education classes, refill authorization, and provision of drug information and educational services to physicians, nursing staff, and other health care professionals. Pharmacists also collaborate with internationally recognized experts in diabetes care on various research initiatives. Diabetes Care Center is a busy teaching site for medical residents and students. Pharmacists serve as preceptors for many fourth-year Pharm.D. students and pharmacy residents.
