- HMC Orthopedics Clinic Pharmacists: The orthopedics clinic pharmacy, in addition to anticoagulation management, provides pain management for outpatients. This includes phone triage and assessment of pain and medication needs and prescriptive authority for narcotics including CII's, non-narcotic analgesics, NSAID's, and adjunctive medications such as antihistamines and anti-emetics. Pharmacy can maintain, substitute, taper, and discontinue narcotics and can initiate, substitute, and discontinue the described adjuncts autonomously in most instances. Pharmacy can prescribe and manage agents for neuropathic pain such as gabapentin or tricyclics upon consultation with a physician.

- HMC Orthopedics Service Pharmacists: Clinical pharmacists work to optimize drug therapy for approximately 30 to 60 patients spread across 6 orthopedic surgery teams at Harborview Medical center which is a level 1 trauma center. Pharmaceutical care is provided as part of an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. Daily responsibilities include participation in work rounds, monitoring drug therapy, patient education, discharge teaching, and provision of drug information to physicians, nursing staff, and other health care professionals. Specific areas of focus on the orthopedic service include pain management, anticoagulation, and antimicrobial prophylaxis and treatment. Pharmacists also work with other health care professionals to ensure continuity between inpatient and outpatient care. The service can be a rotation site for fourth-year Pharm.D. students and pharmacy residents.
