Department of Pharmacy Services
The primary purpose of the Department of Pharmacy Services is to provide pharmaceutical care to patients at Harborview Medical Center and University of Washington Medical Center. The Department is responsible for providing drug therapy to achieve definite outcomes that improve the patients quality of life. The Department plays an integral role in patient care, with a responsibility to the patient for medications - from the time that they are considered through post-administration assessment of their effectiveness. The Department is committed to pharmacy education which includes undergraduate and graduate education and training. Student education is coordinated with the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, and the majority of the pharmacists at UWMC/HMC hold faculty appointments. The Department also participates in scientific and applied research which supports its health-care and educational commitment. The Pharmacy Resident actively participates in providing pharmaceutical care through clinical and distributive roles. The Resident has the opportunity to learn from and work with nationally recognized pharmacy practitioners in various areas of advanced pharmacy practice. Some areas of clinical pharmacy services include neonatal intensive care, cardiology, critical care, neurosurgery, transplant, oncology, psychiatry, infectious disease, and general medicine. Ambulatory services in anticoagulation, family medicine, and outpatient clinics also provide opportunities for refining clinical skills. |
