Residency Description

The Residency in Pharmacy Practice (PGY1) at the University of Washington is a ASHP-accredited post-graduate program, which provides twelve months of training in all aspects of advanced pharmacy practice: acute patient care, ambulatory patient care, drug information, drug policy development, and practice management. The goal of the program is to provide specific skills and competencies to the resident that are needed to assume leadership roles within the profession. The program offers flexibility which allows the residency to be tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Practice Areas

UW Medicine (Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and University of Washington Medical Center) are comprehensive healthcare teaching facilities and serve as the primary sites for the residency. The residents integrated service commitment will be at either the University of Washington Medical Center or Harborview Medical Center. Rotations may be at any of the facilities. The resident will take a total of twelve rotations and will gain experience from these rotations through working with nationally recognized pharmacy practitioners in various areas of advanced pharmacy practice.

The resident's first rotation will be orientation and training in the drug distribution service components of the Department of Pharmacy Services. The December rotation is designated for the project and other rotations are selected by the resident from the following:

  • Oncology-Heme/Onc Clinic
  • Oncology-Gyn/Onc
  • Oncology-Transplant
  • Oncology-Transplant Clinic
  • Medication Safety
  • Pioneer Square Clinic (indigent care)
