PGY2 Critical Care

Program Structure

The critical care residency at University of Washington Medicine is a one-year PGY2 program designed to train pharmacists to practice pharmaceutical care at a high level of competency in a critical care setting. Residents will rotate through medical and surgical services at both the University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.

UW Medicine, which includes Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center, serves as the primary training site for the residency. Residents will rotate through the various teams in 4- and 8-week rotations as described below. Schedules will be developed at the beginning of the year in conjunction with the PGY1 residents, although the PGY2 resident has priority for their required rotations. The schedule may be changed as situations arise concerning preceptor availability and job considerations, provided that the required rotations are met. The resident will have longitudinal responsibilities in: drug distribution (one weekend shift (two 12hr shifts) and one 8hr Friday evening shift per month); participation in clinical research with a required project; attendance at residency meetings; participation in the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee; other committee assignments in critical care areas may be available.
