PGY2 Residency in Oncology Pharmacy Practice

Program Structure

The primary training sites for this PGY-2 experience are at the comprehensive healthcare teaching facilities at the University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The residents integrated service commitment will be rotated between the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and UW Medical Center. Rotations will be primarily at both of these institutions and will gain experience, skills, and content from working with our recognized oncology pharmacy practitioners and faculty.  The rotation experiences include orientation and training in our drug distribution and computer information systems (July-August), initial rotations in the inpatient services- hematopoetic stem transplant services, hematology-oncology services (8-10 weeks), rotations in gynecology-oncology inpatient surgical service (4 weeks), hematology-oncology ambulatory rotation-breast, GI tumors, sarcomas, lymphomas, lung, prostate, melanoma (8 weeks), investigational drug services (4 weeks),  outpatient HSCT service (4 weeks), opportunities for 2 elective rotations (samples below) and a return to the inpatient transplant and hematology-oncology services for an additional 4 weeks towards the end of the residency. The residents will participate in two continuity clinic experiences (one half day clinic for about 6 months each), which includes a pain clinic and the option for any of a number of solid tumor clinics (breast, GI, sarcoma, etc) or hematology clinic. The resident will have longitudinal responsibilities in drug distribution (every other weekend), participation in clinical research with a required project, participation in the Pharmacy & Therapeutic Committee, other committees including the ASHP Foundation Oncology Patient Care Traineeship organization committee. The resident will also participate in the education of our Pharm.D. students through providing didactic lectures in the Cancer Pharmacotherapy course,  facilitating discussion in the therapeutic labs, or participation in the weekend workshops.

  • Additional rotations in any required experiences
