PGY2 Residency in Critical Care Pharmacy Practice

The critical care residency at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Centers is a one-year PGY2 program designed to train pharmacists to practice pharmaceutical care at a high level of competency in a critical care setting.
Specialized Residency Goals:
- Provision of pharmaceutical care services to patients in a critical care area
- Effective communication with patients and other healthcare providers
- Participate in the education of pharmacy students and PGY1 residents as well as medical, nursing, and other healthcare staff
- Develop and participate in the research activities of the Medical Centers
Residency Description
This twelve month specialized critical care residency will provide experiences in clinical training, patient care, teaching and research areas of pharmacy practice.
Practice Areas
The University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center are comprehensive healthcare teaching facilities that serve as the primary sites for the residency. The residency experiences will be divided as follows:

Specialized Residency Requirements
- Develop a clinical service or research project designed to improve pharmaceutical care services for critical care patients.
- Participate in teaching activities at the medical center and school of pharmacy.
- Participate in residents' meetings.
- Have an integrated service commitment and work 32 hours per month in the Critical Care Satellite Pharmacy.
- Prepare and present drug monographs for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
- Present the results of a clinical service or research project at the Western States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors.
- Present a poster at the ASHP midyear clinical meeting.
Resident Stipend:
Approximately $47,000 annually based on prior residency training.

Ten working days
Holidays:
Residents will have five paid holidays that they will not be scheduled to work. Recognized holidays include: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jrs Birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Professional Leave:
Residents will be allowed five days of professional leave for attendance at professional meetings.

Period of Appointment:

Qualifications of the Applicant:
Selected applicants will be required to visit the University of Washington for an on-site interview. The applicant must meet the following general requirements:
- Pharm.D. degree from an ACPE-accredited College or School of Pharmacy.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program or equivalent experience in pharmacy practice.
- Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.
- Appointment to the residency program is contingent upon eligibility for employment according to the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which requires employers to certify eligibility of employees who work in the United States.
